Feeling like I’m getting somewhere…
Sooooo, I booked myself into four events over three back-to-back weekends which I knew would be interesting….. especially as I had only done one of them before.
I honestly did not know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised (read stunned) at the results. All four events were a joy to do, especially the Titchfield Art & Craft Show and the Hayling Island Arts Trail where I was in halls with wonderful people who not only were fabulous artists but genuinely nice people too.
It’s events like these that remind me that in the majority, the community of and surrounding independent artists and crafters is a supportive and engaged one with people trying to help one another, knowing as we do the tribulations of self-employment in a very subjective and changeable vocation.
Add to that, the public that came especially to the art show and trail were obviously interested in the art process itself and appreciated the handmade vs the high street mass production line items that so dominate our shopping habits. It was a wonderful example of shop local and find something made with heart and passion.
It’s a lesson for the future to try to attend more events like this - ones genuinely affirming and uplifting - we all need that in our lives!
